About Creative Sprk

Todd Howard is Sprk: the designer behind Creative Sprk.

Creative Sprk is the Portland-based design studio of Todd Howard, also known as Sprk. The studio creates visual systems, immersive exhibits, XR prototypes, and spatial storytelling concepts for cultural organizations, exhibitions, and premium brand experiences.

The practice starts in graphic design: hierarchy, typography, pacing, contrast, restraint, and public communication. That foundation now extends into exhibition, immersive, and mixed-reality design, where information has to become spatial, embodied, and memorable.

The operating belief is simple: facts are the raw material; emotion is the delivery system. Creative Sprk uses design to make complex ideas legible without stripping away the wonder, tension, or cultural meaning that makes people care.

Research focus

Emotionally intentional XR.

My current research asks how XR experiences can be designed to shape what people understand, remember, and feel. I’m especially interested in the difference between passive immersive media and interactive XR, where space, story, agency, and sensory design can work together to create meaning rather than novelty.

That research is not a portfolio project by itself. It is the lens behind the work: experiences where technology serves interpretation, emotion, and public understanding.
